S.E.E.D.S. Commitment to Developmentally Appropriate Practice

S.E.E.D.S. is a nationally accredited Catholic preschool dedicated to providing your child a developmentally appropriate experience. We believe in and adhere to Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP). DAP describes an approach to education that focuses on the child as a developing human being and a lifelong learner. This approach recognizes the child as an active participant in the learning process; a participant who acquires meaning and knowledge through interaction with other friends and family, material and environment. Children learn through meaningful play. The teacher acts as an active facilitator. Developmentally appropriate practices require teachers to make decisions in the classroom by combining their knowledge of child development with an understanding of the individual child to achieve desired and meaningful outcomes.
By following Developmentally Appropriate Practices, S.E.E.D.S. includes the following teaching strategies in your child’s experience:

  • Active Learning Strategies- S.E.E.D.S. program promotes children’s active exploration of the environment. Children manipulate real objects and learn through hands-on, direct experiences. Children explore, reflect, interact and communicate with other children and adults. Center time is one way we provide active learning time. S.E.E.D.S. also provides special guests, real life experiences like gardening, food preparation, re-enacting Bible stories, hands-on Science experiments and community service projects that enhance and support active learning.
  • Varied Instructional Strategies- By honoring the individual child, S.E.E.D.S. recognizes that there are a variety of ways for children to learn including: teacher-led instruction, child directed learning, independent learning, center based learning, etc. By providing a variety of ways to learn, children with various learning styles are able to develop their capabilities. Children feel successful and ready to meet challenges because learning is fun and something they are good at!
  • Integrated Curriculum- S.E.E.D.S. curriculum is a theme based curriculum. This thematic approach motivates students to investigate interesting ideas from multiple perspectives. Our monthly theme becomes a catalyst for developing concepts, skills and attitudes.
